The Burrell Collection wins Art Fund Museum of the Year 2023

The Burrell Collection has been awarded the prestigious Art Fund Museum of the Year 2023 at a ceremony held at the British Museum in London. This accolade, presented by artist Sir Grayson Perry, comes with a prize of £120,000, the largest museum award globally.

Located in Pollok Country Park, Glasgow, the Burrell Collection showcases 9,000 objects from Sir William and Constance Burrell. Following a major refurbishment, which our company, Greenway Associates, proudly served as cost consultants for, the museum was officially reopened by King Charles in October 2022. This renovation has made the museum a model of accessibility and inclusivity.

Since reopening, the Burrell Collection has welcomed over 500,000 visitors and generated an economic impact of £20 million in its first six months. The museum engaged local communities in its redisplay, featuring over 100 unique digital interpretations for a richer visitor experience.

The Burrell was chosen from five finalists, each receiving £15,000, contributing to a total prize fund of £180,000. This recognition underscores Art Fund’s commitment to celebrating museums’ role in community engagement and accessibility.

Congratulations to the Burrell Collection team for this remarkable achievement, and to all involved in the project, including our team at Greenway Associates, Architects John McAslan + Partners, and Event, the masterplanners and exhibition designers!
